The heightened public awareness of food safety as a result of the pandemic has opened an opportunity for a profitable venture through the establishment of an abattoir compliant with National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) standards.
From 2020 to 2022, Pavia produced 5,571 heads of swine, 1,950 cows, and 1,509 carabaos, yet the meat supply was processed through the backyard abattoirs of nearby meat establishments, which highlighted concerns about the environment, health and sanitation, and food safety.
The local government intends to modernize its livestock sector by raising its ability to produce fresh and safe meat for domestic and national markets and to meet the needs of the fast-growing population of the municipality being a host to many residential subdivisions. To realize this goal, it has identified 4,500 square meters of land for the establishment of the NMIS-compliant abattoir
